Celebrating Women Youth Shaping Climate Policy and Action in Kenya

The Kenyan youth are at the forefront of climate action; mobilising at the grassroot level and national level. Among them are women who are making an impact through leading organisations and campaigns as well as shaping climate policy. At Green Climate Network we are proud to highlight these youth trailblazers who are redefining the climate action conversation in the country. These women are prove that climate leadership is inclusive and powerful:  

  1. Elizabeth Wathuti

Elizabeth is a household name when it comes to the environment and climate conversation. She is the founder of Green Generation Initiative which has planted 30,000 seedlings in Kenya.  She is Known globally for her powerful speeches at COP summits. Wathuti was awarded the wangari Maathai scholarship for her commitment to environmental conservation. She is also a member of the Green Belt Movement that was founded by her role model Professor Wangari Maathai. 

  1. Anita Soina

Anita is the Founder of Spice Warriors and author of Green War. She is the Ambassador of Wild About Life Campaigns – A joint initiative of She was named the Global Youth Champion for Sanitation and Water for All (SWA). Soina was named  the Ambassador of Wild About Life Campaigns -(June 2021 – Present)

   3. Ivy Wambui Muchoki

 She is a renewable energy advocate who is passionate about    community-based conservation and agribusiness. Ivy has been at the forefront of many programs that aim to protect endangered species. Ivy has empowered the youth through agribusiness innovation as the Youth Programs Coordinator and Global Youth Advisor. She has also represented the youth on global forums like the Women in Africa, Pan African Youth Forum and Nasser Fellowship. 

4. Claire Nasike Akello

Claire Nasike Akello is an agroecologist and environmental scientist passionate about sustainable agriculture, food sovereignty, and biodiversity in Kenya. As GLF Africa Coordinator and founder of The Hummingbird Foundation, she empowers communities and schoolchildren to embrace organic farming and nature conservation.

 A former Food for Life Campaigner at Greenpeace Africa, she also leads a landmark legal challenge against a law that criminalises smallholder farmers for sharing seeds. Recognised among Kenya’s Top 40 Under 40 Women in 2025, Claire stands out as a strong voice for climate resilience and environmental justice.

5. Mary Muthoni Wangari

At 24, Mary is redefining Kenya’s agriculture through agroecology, equipping farmers with sustainable practices that strengthen climate resilience and food security. As Youth Coordinator at Haki Nawiri Afrika, she drives initiatives that connect climate justice with youth empowerment, giving marginalised communities a voice in decision-making. Her efforts are transforming local food systems and inspiring young Africans to see themselves as powerful agents of climate action.
